What Is New On The 2017 Highlander?

New Trim Levels: Starting in 2017, the Highlander has a SE Gas trim level that comes with sport-tuned suspension. The SE trim level is not available as a Hybrid.  They also expanded the hybrid line-up and added the Hybrid LE and Hybrid XLE grades with standard Electronic On-Demand AWD with intelligence (AWD-i).

Mechanical Upgrades: They upgraded the engine to a 6-cylinder gasoline engine with 3.5-Liter V6 Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC), 24-Valve D-4S Injection Atkinson Cycle-capable Engine with Dual VVT-iW (Variable Valve Timing-Intelligent Wider Intake) & VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-Intelligent Exhaust). In addition, it now boosts 295 horsepower at 6,660 rpm as well as 263 lb.-ft. torque at 4,700 rpm. This makes the 2017 Toyota Highlander a vehicle class leader in horsepower.

Also, the new Stop and Start Engine System is standard on the LE plus and above grades. The Stop and Start Engine System helps with reducing average emissions, creating a quieter drive for passengers and helps get better MPGs.

With the 6 cylinder Hybrid engine they upgraded it to a 3.5-Liter V6 Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 24-Valve D-4S Injection Atkinson Cycle Engine with Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-Intelligent); EV, ECO, and POWER Modes; 306 hybrid system net hp (228 kW).

Plus on the SE grades, the Highlander now offers a sport-tuned independent MacPherson® strut front suspension with front stabilizer bar as well as a sport-tuned double-wishbone rear suspension with rear stabilizer bars.
